Washington Emergency Management Division

Washington State 911 Program

The 911 Unit within the Emergency Management Division is dedicated to maintaining the seamless operation of Washington State’s 911 communications system—ensuring fast, reliable, and consistent access to public safety services for all residents and visitors.

This unit supports Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) across the state, helping them navigate the complexities of participating in the statewide 911 system. Its efforts are funded through a state 911 excise tax, approved by voters to strengthen and sustain this vital service.

As communication technologies continue to evolve, the 911 Unit remains at the forefront—modernizing the network to support wireless, VoIP, and emerging non-traditional technologies. Their mission is clear: keep Washington connected to help, whenever and however it’s needed.
